Mallow
Atop A Wall · Book 1
A huge, quiet traveler with four arms and few words, heading dawnward for reasons of his own.
Mallow is a Bogrel, and Fen has never seen anyone like him. He is the biggest of the three by far, with a round black shell marked by a single red dot, amber skin, and small dark eyes that give nothing away. Three of his hands work. The fourth is gone, and the stump is wrapped in white cloth. Everything else about him is worn by the road, but the cloth is always clean.
People tend to look at Mallow’s still face and decide there is not much behind it. They are wrong. He reads the weather, finds water, and notices what the other two miss. He just doesn’t always have the words for it, and some days he has none at all.
He knows the road dawnward better than either of them. Why he is going back that way is his own business.
